Daniel W. Ryan is a project coordinator for the Illinois Public Pension Fund Association (IPPFA).  He is retired from two careers: as finance director of the Village of Skokie (IL) and as a health and pension plan administrator for a large union-employer plan.  The author has served as a trustee of the Skokie Police Pension Fund for more than thirty years.  He holds undergraduate degrees in accounting and political science, a graduate degree in Public Administration and has completed the U.S. Navy Reserve Instructor School.

Dan has instructed in the criminal justice program at Lewis University, the public safety degree program at Southern Illinois University and is currently on the faculty at the Northeastern Illinois Public Safety Training Academy (NIPSTA).  He holds the Certified Employee Benefits Specialist designation (CEBS) awarded by the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans and The Wharton School.   Dan is the author of Social Security for State and Local Government Employees and is the primary author of the IPPFA Retirement Guide for Illinois police and fire professionals.
